Spark Chooses College Over Thomas’ English Muffins Spark Ignites Laughs
(Fall, 1986 - Spring, 1990) Combine a couple of busy fingers and a little luck, and Dave Spark is the 18th caller for the "Eat or Be Educated" call-in contest on WROK-FM. Given the choice of a lifetime supply of Thomas’ English Muffins or acceptance to Washington University - no expenses paid, Dave chooses an education and works on campus only to afford toast for the next four years. "It wasn’t that his comedy was that funny, it was more like it was itchy." Audiences flock to watch the man that’ll make you scratch ‘till you laugh. They tune into KWUR-FM, crowd the Funny Bone, and applaud euphorically as Dave Spark wins the 1990 St. Louis College Comedy Competition. Dave starts writing for Olympia Broadcasting, and moments later people coast to coast are heard giggling as they listen to Dave’s parodies on the Rock Comedy Network.
Dave Spark: He Studies, He Tells Jokes, He Works Off Campus
On top of the madness of school and a burgeoning comedy career, Dave works for Hardware and Software Engineering Services(Summer, 1988) as a marketing analyst. He develops a database program to manage customer and vendor relations for CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) consulting. Next year, Dave joins up with Media Solutions as a planner for Kenrick Advertising. He helps design software to determine the diminishing rates of return of advertising effectiveness. How does he do it?
